Hanukkah and Moving Complications

Today, I’m thankful for:

  1. Clean clothes to wear.
  2. Google, so I can come up with new ways to play games.
  3. Books to read.
  4. As much eyesight as I do have.
  5. A friend who will listen to all of my crazy ideas for possible new novel/short story plots (and yes, they’re really crazy).
  6. Rye, to make rye bread. Mum made some today, and although I haven’t tasted any yet it sure smells good!
  7. The ability to make a sparkling clean kitchen bench (counter top). I love stainless steel!

Today was day two of Hanukkah. I took a little more time to make some special food, and we tried out Cheese Blintzes (sorry, no pictures though). We ended up using a different filling for them, and they turned out pretty good! The different filling was supposed to be smoked salmon, but we didn’t have any, and there was not enough time to thaw any other meat, so we ended up using pre-cooked bacon. Very kosher and Jewish, I know. Oh well. They still turned out okay. :)

We lit the second candle tonight. Whenever Nathan (the baby) sees a candle lit he immediately starts puffing to try to blow it out. So cute! We have to make sure he stays well away from the candles, or he might end up blowing them out! And we don’t want that.

It was Thanksgiving today, as well (will be tomorrow in the States)! In a way, we celebrated it. We had a big feast tonight. But the meal was more about Hanukkah than Thanksgiving. Probably doesn’t matter, though—we are still all thankful.

Oh, yes—and an update on the new house. On Saturday, we bought a shipping container that’s been converted into a sleep out for us five oldest children to sleep in. Yesterday and today, Mum finalised getting it shipped up here. Lord willing, it will be coming up on the truck tomorrow.

Tonight, Dad called Craig and asked if it would be alright if the man set it down there on the property tomorrow. Come to find out, it won’t work out to put it in there! There were two reasons:

  1. The sale has not gone through yet and the family they’re buying from is looking for every excuse possible to postpone it. So putting a container in there would just complicate things. (We’re praying hard that the sale will go through quickly. It could create problems for us if it doesn’t and we’re still working on the place at the time we’re supposed to move!)
  2. Since it’s been raining the last few days, the ground in the paddock that the truck will have to drive through is very soft—there’s a miniature creek that flows through that area when it rains! So there’s no way they could get the truck in anyway without getting very stuck!

In the end, we’ll have the truck bring the container here. Dad talked to our current landlord, and he’s okay with us putting it here. We will have to make sure it’s well off the road, though, so it won’t be reported (not sure exactly what the reasons are there). But that will enable us to pack into that and have more time to prepare the ground over at the new place. This is turning out to be even more of an adventure! :) I’m excited to see what will happen next.

Well, I think that’s most of the news from today. It will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings.
