Today’s prompt:
Things that start with the letter “G”.
- God. I’m so glad there’s a being out of this world who loves and cares for us! I would be dead without Him.
- Grapes. Although it’s disgusting to see how they grow them these days, I still love eating them.
- Gardens. Especially flower and herb gardens. They smell so lovely! I’d love to have a little flower/herb garden one day with a comfortable bench in the shade for curling up on and reading. :) I love vegetable gardens, too—they provide food for our family!
- Great faith. The kind of faith that George Mueller and Hudson Taylor had. It’s very, very encouraging to see how God came though in the last minute for them. And to think that we have the same power today that they did back then, the power of prayer….
- Giving thanks. I’m thankful that I can be thankful!
- Green. I think it’s a lovely colour—it comes in such different shades!
- Good food. I’m blessed to live in a family where healthy food is important.
I spent most of my day reading—I finished one book, and read another. I had a good excuse—my computer had some updates relating to Windows 8.1, and I had to be there to keep the process going. And anyway, writers are supposed to read a lot, right?
One project I did do today was help my brothers burn a big brush pile they had in the paddock. It was a pretty fast, hot blaze because there were a lot of pine needles in it, so that was fun to watch. Then we decided to sort through a HUGE pile of boards in one of the sheds, so that took an hour or two. Most of the boards ended up being burned because they were rotten or cracked or otherwise unfit for use. We did save a few that still looked good to use. But that place sure looks a lot straighter without a mangy stack of boards there! :)
After sorting through the boards we went inside for lunch—which had been delayed for quite a while because we were all working out there. I’m glad Mum is patient! :) After lunch we went out and roasted marshmallows over the coals. That was delicious! We brought them from the States, so they were the real thing. Poor James still doesn’t know the best way to perfectly roast a marshmallow—he prefers them black on the outside—but I’m working on changing that. ;) It’s fun to practice the art once in a while, even if marshmallows aren’t the best for you! :)
This afternoon, I got a start on sorting and packing my room. It’s been interesting to see some of the things I brought from the States and realising I haven’t used them once in the four years since we’ve been here! About time for those to go. It was fun seeing some of the things for my “hope chest” that I’ve collected over the years. To date, I’ve got a Sunbeam mixer (hand-me-down from someone else who was moving), several cloth serviettes (napkins), a beautiful salt and pepper shakers set from one of my aunts, and about 5-8 cups/mugs and saucers. Oh yeah, and I’ve got a six-piece teacup set I got at recycling once. It was fun to see all those treasures! :)
So that was my day. Since about noon it’s been raining fairly steadily, praise the Lord! Someone said that we might end up getting 3-5 inches. That would be wonderful! I can’t hear if it’s raining now or not, but I hope it keeps raining! :)
