An Update on Our New House

Today, I’m thankful for:

  1. Warm weather again. It was sunny!
  2. The sale on the place we’re moving into went through! Definitely an answer to prayer there!
  3. We got the shipping container moved in safely. Another answer to prayer!
  4. Our very kind and caring soon-to-be landlords. They’re a blessing.
  5. The new couch Mum got yesterday…it’s so comfortable!
  6. Brothers who like eating the things I make.
  7. A place for Dad to work (and a Dad who can work!). Even though he has to put in LONG hours some days. Thanks, Dad.

The big news for today is that we’ve got the shipping container (converted into a sleep out) safely into a paddock by the new place. Up until late this morning Mum was planning to have it be brought here, but then we got a very welcome call from Debbie (Craig’s wife), and she said that it looked like the sale might end up going through today, so we were welcome to put the container there! Mum called Dad at work, and he decided it would be alright if we went with the original plan A—set it down there, and then move it to the proper place later once we have the footers prepared.

So this afternoon we were all waiting for the text from the person who was bringing it up. I made some doughnuts while we waited, and that was our special Hanukkah treat today. They didn’t turn out the greatest ever, but they still tasted fine. I had to use whole wheat flour instead of all purpose, and that threw the texture off. And then I didn’t have quite enough oil. In the end I was able to get them all cooked, and we all enjoyed them. :)

About half past five (or was it 6:00?), Mum finally got the text, right after coming in from milking—perfect timing! We jumped in the van as fast as possible, and got over there just in time for her to figure out where he needed to go to avoid the wet patches. He got there about five minutes after we arrived.

Mum told Debbie that he was there, so she came down the hill (they live just up the hill and around a curve from the new place—maybe 1-2 minutes away). They decided where it should sit to make it the easiest for moving, and also out of the way of the tractor which will be dragging trees out of that area. Then we went home—by that time it was 7:30.

This evening’s been pretty uneventful—we’ve just had good family time. We’re SO thankful the sale went through! Now we can actually start to work. Debbie said that it’s been a big headache, because the sale has dragged on for about a year now and the family has not been cooperative at all. But now it’s all over and done with, and they own the place. Ahh, God is good.

P. S. I did get pictures from today, but I don’t have time to share them now. I’ll try to get them up sometime soon!
