We had a beautiful warm day again today. It was nor-westerly all day, and it was nice not to have school to do. Dad and James were sick all day; Dad didn't eat lunch or tea. James didn't eat lunch, and when he ate tea he promptly threw up. Poor James!

We took Clove over to P.'s tonight because we thought she might be in heat. Billy (he's one HUGE hulk!) tried jumping her a little at first, but then just smelled her. I think she was in heat, just didn't want him to jump her for some reason. Strange!

Well, I should go. It's late.

Sunday, 25 March 2012

Whew! Today was a good day! It started out fairly mild, a strong wind (though cold), which kept the temperature down today (which was nice!!!). It would have been quite a bit warmer had not the wind blown. As it was, it was 17°, which was warm enough!!!

Dad didn't feel that well this morning, and James hasn't been very well, so we stayed home from church—which turned out good after all! We sang quite a few songs this morning, read a chapter from Luke, and then listened to My Godly Father by Keith Daniels. Such an inspiring story of Keith's father! Sad, too.

By the time we were done listening to that, Mum was on a golden chair—the couch was too uncomfortable. Poor Mum. I got two hot pads done while we were listening to the sermon, I loved being able to do both. The sermon was so wonderful, especially since we don't hear one very often.

This afternoon, Dad and I did Are Your Prayers Upsidedown?. It's in the Bible study Come Follow Me that the men's group are doing every fortnight. A wonderful study, all about how we should pray. Very thought-provoking, to say the least! Anyway, while we were doing the Bible study, Aunt L. called. We talked for quite a while, then she got off (it was 10-11:00 there!), and we got back to working on the study. A little bit later, Mum left (to go to the toilet, I presumed), and I didn't take any further notice. Then she came back a little later and said in a fairly calm voice “Gayle, my water just broke.” Okay... I was stunned. That was at 3:40.

By 4:30, Mum knew baby was most likely on the way. Over 4:45-5:15ish, Dad and Mum were down the hall taking naps (I thought). I had a sneaking suspicion that it might just have to do with that the baby was on the way. I had asked Mum if she was feeling it, and she said yes. Hmm...

Well, at 5:30, Dad came in and said, “Seth and Simon, head down the road to milk the cow. Mum isn't going to tonight. Esther, you go and milk, too.”

“But Dad,” I protested, “It's only 5:30! Or—or do you mean the baby's coming?” He said that the baby was on the way, and so we hurriedly went out to milk. He called Mortons and told them to come pick us up in about half an hour.

I got done milking, strained my milk (all the time straining for some sound, but I didn't hear anything), and went outside. Dad had given me permission to go help the boys milk, but Elijah and James weren't allowed to go. I took Joe out with me, told the boys to stay OUT of the house, and stay away from the bedroom end especially, they could go out in the goat paddock if they liked. I went to get my bike—and heard Mum. It was just a low moan, but I knew. “IT” was on the way.

Milking got done fast, and when I was back straining the milk, I heard the sweetest sound that has ever reached my ears—a new-born baby's cry. Yes, “IT” was born! I raced out to tell my brothers, and then went back to the kitchen. Dad came in and said, “You have a brother!”

“What's his name?” I asked. They hadn't named him yet. I called K-- & J--- first, then called P.'s, W.'s/N.'s, and H.'s.

We made apple juice for Mum (at her request), and watched The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry while we waited. I also made tea while we waited. The midwife finally came, and pronounced him healthy. We finally got to hold NATHAN JOHN F------, 8LB, 6 OZ, born at 6:14 PM. What a gift, straight from God! And his name means, “He has given”, “God is gracious”. Nathan's such a precious jewel!

Now I'm off to bed! Goodnight!

Monday, 26 March 2012

Another good day. Everyone's fighting over Nathan. He's so cute and adorable and sweet and...and wonderful! We all love him. Poor Elijah can't hold him, though—he has staph infections on his arms and knees. Hopefully he'll clear up soon!!!

Dad was home today, he has off all week since Mum's laid up. She spent most of the day in bed, except for this evening, when she came out to her chair. That was LOVELY!

Nathan didn't sleep very well last night. Mum got five-minute naps occasionally, but nothing more until 5 o'clock. Poor Mum. She was pretty tired tonight. He's so hungry that he couldn't go to sleep until he got milk, which hasn't fully come in yet. Poor Nathan. Just wait another couple days, baby...

Since Nathan's come finally, we just did Math today. I had several hard questions, so Dad helped me with them. He also helped the boys, so Math was done in fairly good time.

When I got up this morning, I went to the fridge to find breakfast. I also found the meatballs (which we had for tea tonight) that Mum had so kindly put in the fridge. They had dripped all the way down the side of the fridge, so I took out almost everything from there, and cleaned it up. They ended up yummy, but I had to wipe the fridge out before putting breakfast in the oven. Oops! Next time...

For lunch we had a sausage/vege/barley(?) casserole. Yum! We also had tomato sandwiches.

The midwife came again, and checked up on Mum and Nathan. All doing well.

Di came by this evening to see Nathan. She said that Pete thought I said “Mason John” when I told him the name! She couldn't quite figure us out—naming him “Mason”, like the Masonic Lodge. She didn't figure that one out until she got on Facebook and saw his name and picture. Oops! Poor Pete. We had to laugh.

Di's sister and her husband were at their place last night. Di took her sister out to see one of their funny roosters who has his feathers all facing the wrong way. All the way out there, Di said, her sister talked about her shoes. Even at the chook pen, her sister still talked about her shoes, where she got them, etc. (Remember, this sister [Di says that they shouldn't be sisters, they're so different] has a very high IQ). When Di finally got her sister to look at the rooster, the woman said, “Why are his feathers all that way?”

“Oh, one day the nor'wester blew so hard that they turned that way.” Di teasingly said.

“When was that?” her sister replied.

“Oh, that was one Wednesday when the nor-wester was especially strong.” Di answered. Her sister is gullible—she never caught on! We had to laugh at the poor lady.

While Di was here, Dad came in with two HUGE puffballs. One of them is at least 1 ½ft in diameter, the other one about half a foot. I guess Doug Taylor had stopped by to drop them off.

Also while Di was here, Heidi came for her milk and got to see the baby. She looked pleased for us, but I could detect a wistfulness in her look. Poor lady; she's never had a baby and might never have one. There are so many people like that now a days. Sad. Very sad.

Well, I think I should call it a day. It's wonderful having a baby in the house again. Like the boys have wanted to do lately, they're all sleeping out in the tent. I'm no camper. Bed is the best place for me!

P.S. Grandma's coming in 6 days! I can hardly wait!!!
