17th Feburary

Sorry for the interupted journal. I didn't have my computer for a couple of days (had to send it to the fix-it man), so journal wasn't done. I did complete a few days of journal, though!
--------------------------------
It's been a very interesting day. This morning, I worked on school and helped Mom. Then this afternoon, a friend came by with her daughter who's my age. Her son had a dental appointment in the village, so she dropped her daughter off and took her son to the clinic. Then she dropped her son off, and went to visit a new homeschool family here close. They're having trouble getting permission from the government, so she went to help them get that sorted. Doesn't sound like they're totally done, but the father (who's educating the children while Mum works) is going to her place to finish it all tomorrow.

Just as we were starting worship, the header for our landlord's combine came down the road! Then in a little while a truck with two trailers behind it pulled up by the wheat paddock. By the time the mother got back, they were just starting to combine. Now they've got two going, our landlord's and the HUGE Claas combine. At one point there were about 5 cars/trucks lined up along the road, plus one in the paddock itself where the two combines were harvesting!

At the moment, the Claas is unloading wheat onto the truck. He is really good at maneuvering that thing! Now both trailers of the truck are full--and they're only about halfway done with the paddock! It's quite something to see. Two combines, hard at work, with dust billowing out behind them. And only a trail 1-1 1/2 feet tall stretched out like a ribbon behind to show that they went through.

Our landlord has to get up close to the fence to unload his wheat, since his combine is shorter than the Claas. When he came up to unload the first time, he caught on the wire that the boys had moved close (but not close enough) to the fence. The wire broke, and now we have to tie it together. :( Oh, well. Worse things can happen. It will probably work just as well.

All the boys are out on or beside the fence. It is pretty fun to watch all the wheat being mowed down, I'll admit. Maybe not as much as they make out, but I guess they are boys who love machinery.

Later:
What I did for school today:
  1. Started writing for Gems/Minerals booklet (never finished)
  2. Read Josephus
  3. Read Beautiful Girlhood
  4. Watched a wheat paddock being harvested (life skills?)
  5. Entertained company (life skills?)
This evening, the boys and I were using Simon's sling shot and trying to hit the target--a bucket on the driveway. I hit it once, but didn't have another chance to try to hit it again.

Overall, today was a good day.
