Early this morning, we looked outside and saw a kingfisher on the fence! that was a special sighting. Mom said she didn’t think she had ever seen one that close before.
Editing went well today. I worked from 11:15 am or so until the computer died (well, threatened to, anyway). Last week we got a notice that the power would be out from 9 am to 4 pm from Tuesday to Friday, so today was the second day that the power was off. While that makes some things harder, overall we’re coping pretty well.
I’ve learned that if I want to get my editing done, I must save computer battery for it. That hasn’t been too hard for the most part, although it would be much nicer if I didn’t have to keep checking to see how much time I have left! Ah well. Only two more days of this!
I worked for about an hour today (all the time allowed), wrote one new scene (only 150 words long or so), edited 3 others (plus a bit), and in total wrote 270 words. That felt pretty productive, but there at the last with only 15 minutes or so of battery left I started to panic. ;) But all’s well that ends well.
In other news of the day, I called a woman this morning to ask about some goats she is willing to sell (found through a friend who owns goats). Ever since I had my first goat in 2007 (?), I’ve always wanted more. For 1 ½ or 2 years I had some goats here, but last year around this time I had to get rid of them because we just didn’t have enough land to support them and we had a bad worms and tetanus problem there. But since we’ve moved we now have more land, and I’m hoping I can have a goat or two again! It’s still up in the air. Hopefully we’ll be able to go see the goats next Tuesday.
Around mid-morning, I heard some dogs barking, and so went to investigate. The same people who herded that big mob of sheep down the road yesterday were bringing some cattle down today! So everyone had to take a 5-minute school break to watch. :)
Just before lunch time, Simon came in all excited and said that a chicken they found yesterday sitting on a nest has a baby chick under her! This is the only one so far—we still aren’t sure if there will be more or if all the other eggs are duds. Just after I took this picture (above), the chick ducked under the camera—I guess he thought it was too cold to be out of his box!
He is quite the peeper. Right now, his name is “Little Bo-Peep”. :) He’s such a fluff-ball of cuteness!
Everyone loves the little fellow. It will sure be fun to watch him the next few days until he starts to grow out his feathers! Right now, he’s just the right size and softness to cuddle in your hand.
Well, I should go. There are always other things to do, and bed is one of those priorities at the moment.
