So far, Camp NaNo editing has gone really well. Considering that we had no power from 9 am to 4 pm (Mainpower was working on the lines), I’m thankful it went as well as it did! This morning, the word count started out at around 49,762 words (somehow, my word counter during NaNo managed to add some words…wonder how that worked?). When I finished up today, I’m at 50,170. So even if I didn’t quite win in November (according to this word counter) I made up for that today! :) And really…it wasn’t my fault that the word counter was faulty!
And now I’ve ascertained that I’m an adder. I write slim, and then I expand. Stephanie Morrill wrote an interesting post over on Go Teen Writers a while back, and mentioned that. What I did today was mainly major scene editing, making sure that the scenes flowed with the rest of the book. I did do some line editing (correcting words, etc.), and that’s where I added the 408 words today.
I’m thinking about changing some major plot things though, to fit better with the time period, so that might take more time later on. Today, I finished in roughly 30-45 minutes. One important thing I learned today: Editing can be fun. God is good. :)
Otherwise today, we lived with the power being off. I actually enjoyed it to some extent, because I was able to finish a book my brother has been begging me to read for the last 2-3 months! And I finished Romeo and Juliet—the Shakespeare Made Easy edition. That was, to say the least, interesting. By act 4 or so I had already guessed how it would end so it wasn’t as sad in the end as it should have been. I’ve put the book on my “interesting but almost pointless classical books” shelf. Next up is Jane Eyre—I think I’ll like that one better. ;)
Another excitement today was when our calf got loose (which reminds me…I haven’t posted pictures of him yet! MUST remember…). He ran from one end of the huge paddock next to our house, thoroughly enjoying himself. Of course, the other cows were curious, so they ran after him. By the time the boys were able to catch him, they were completely winded and took some time recovering from chasing the rambunctious fellow! Sadly, I didn’t get any pictures of the event.
Just after the boys captured Mr. Brownie a huge mob of sheep went past. I’d guess there were several hundred there, and it was pretty fun to watch them. Rarely have I seen that many sheep being herded down the road at once before.
There, I think that’s the news from the day. Did anything out of the ordinary happen to you today?
Esther
