No. Inspiration.

This is what I wrote on my 420fables.com account this morning:

*tears running down face*
"I can't do it, LORD! I beg your help.
Thank you.

I try to write, but the words don't come fast. I want to think, to get my words down on paper. I know I have that story in there, but I just can't find it. The inspiration doesn't come. It sits in the back of my mind, brooding there, waiting for me to find it. I slip my hand onto the cold mouse of the computer, and dream dreams of writers who have found their story and gotten it down on paper. I feel stuck, unmoved. My mind runs back to when I did have inspiration, and I wonder how I was ever able to do it. All thoughts seem gone, all work seems useless. I don't have anything to do. I have a story to finish, but I don't have a word to fill that story. My mind is blank, like a sheet of freshly-pressed paper or a blank wall. My thoughts seem to be mirages, always just out of reach, but always just before me. Oh, how I wish I could capture them! How I wish I could hold my thoughts tight, and keep them. Get them out on paper for all to see. I search the heavens for an answer, for any answer. I know there is one. I just must be patient and let it slowly dawn upon me. I must be patient.

Oh, LORD, help me!

Will you please pray for me?

  1. ALWAYS keep a pen and paper in your purse or at hand. Write down any ideas that you may have throughout the day, and you'll always have something.
Surf pinterest for pictures of beautiful places, art, and the simple things. You'll always find inspiration there. I will pray for you, Esther! God has given you a wonderful talent for writing. Don't let "writer's block" get you down. Trust the One who created you to give you things to write.

  2. Hmm...I've heard that first part of advice quite a bit; maybe I should start minding it! :)

Pinterest! That's a great idea! I just searched for "writing inspiration" on there, and came up with more than 635 boards! (I didn't count all of them--there were too many!) I'll definitely have to return if I'm lacking inspiration. Seems as if other people have had trouble with it, too, and so they created an "inspiring board" for themselves. I like going on Pinterest (even though I don't have an account) to search for pictures I want to use in posts. Thanks for the tip!

And thanks for the other encouraging words--I'm going off to write.

    Hugs!

  4. That's how I felt at that moment...and I still kinda feel like it. :-/ I think I was able to write that because 1) it was pressing on my brain, 2) I had to get it out somewhere, and 3) I had only 4 min, 20 sec to get it out and down on the screen.

So you think I ought to write more like that?

  5. well seeing as you were spilling out your feelings it worked and you may find it helpful-but I don't think it will work every time. (true story in a sorta round about way)

  6. I know that feeling! What I find is that when I am busiest with other things, those are the times when I have a thousand thoughts racing through my head and no time to write them down. When I actually have the time to sit down and write, they flee! :)I agree with the comment that you should keep writing materials at hand. I try to always keep a notebook in my purse. I have scratched ideas on napkins, the back of receipts, etc. in a pinch. Just keep on keeping on. :)

I hear you're coming to Michigan in a few months! Yea!! :)
