Various Breeds of Cattle, and Their Attributes

Today, I got to study various breeds of cattle, and attributes of each. Very interesting, to say the least!

Holsteins/Friesens: 

• Highest producer of milk in the world
• Lots of milk, not much butterfat 

Jerseys:

• Not as much milk, more butterfat 

Herefords:

• Mainly used for beef 

Brown Swiss: 

• Second highest producer of milk in the world (next to Holsteins/Friesens)

Angus: 

• Makes good beef 

Belted Galloway: 

• Mostly used for beef 

Guernsey: 

• Milk cow 

Ayrshire: 

• Milk cow, used to be used for meat but not as much now. 

Longhorn: 

• Beef cattle 

Dexter: 

• Milk 
• Meat
