I tasted Nutella for the first time ever a year or two ago, and instantly fell in love with it. It isn’t a regular family condiment, though (we’re all pb&j lovers), so I just tried to forget how yummy it tasted. :) And then…I found the yummiest, most edible recipe ever (oh, wait…most recipes are edible. hmm…).
Anyway, I thought I’d share the recipe because it’s so yummy—and hopefully you’ll be hooked, too!
Homemade Nutella
2 1/2 cups roasted walnuts
Grind until smooth, like peanut butter.
Add:
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 to 2 tsp. stevia (if using powdered sugar do 1/2 cup per cup of nuts)
1/4 tsp. salt
cream until you get the right consistency
Mix it all together, and enjoy!
This recipe came from two sources: the original (here)—that had roasted hazelnuts in it, and a Yahoo! Answers page. You see, We can get hazelnuts here, but they cost an atrocious amount! (like $16 NZD/kg [$8 NZD/lb]) So…I wanted to find a cheaper way. After finding the above mentioned Yahoo! Answers answer, I made it with walnuts. They’re cheap (we get them for free, and just have to shell them out!), easy to roast, and yummy!
So now I’m excited. Instead of using our homemade peanut butter on my bread, I can use this—and hey, who doesn’t like a chocolaty spread on their bread?! Next time, maybe, I’ll try it with roasted peanuts…that would be chocolate peanut butter, then!

Oh, and P.S. If you’re not yet convinced that you want to try it, just remember that Nate (my 1-year-old baby brother) likes it so well that he gets a spoon and goes begging at the fridge door for a taste. That’s how good it is!
That sounds SOOO yummy! I shall certainly try this next time we get walnuts! =)
