Lately, we’ve been able to pick wild mushrooms (the good kind) right here on our farm! It’s lots of fun to go out and pick them. The ones here on our place (most common is the “horse mushroom”) are usually found under pine trees, although we have found some out in the paddocks, too. Rule of thumb here in NZ—at least, what we’ve been told!—is that if the “gills” (also called spores??) are any shade of brown or black, then they’re good, but white, blue, red, and yellow is bad.
It’s been fascinating learning about the different kinds of mushrooms, the ones that are good and the ones that are bad. A very educational experience, if you ask me! :)
This was our harvest tonight. The mushroom in the bottom left-hand corner is a horse mushroom, but I’m not sure what the other ones are.
We’re very thankful for every mushroom we find—the more, the better, because the more we find wild the less we have to buy!
For now,
heheee we went mushrooming at the Peaches when claire was here next day at cyrus and naomi's and made soup out of a little of that and a heap that we found in the fridge, later we found lots of worms in it (from the ones in the fridge ) yuk
