Kombucha.
The yummiest kind of pop/soda/fizzy drink ever—even Mum, who doesn’t like fizzy drink of any kind loves it. Baby loves strolling around the house with a cup of it. Our family could drink up to 4 litres/quarts at a time, if we had that much to spare! As it is now, we make that much a week…last week we made that much, and drank it all Saturday, so we’ve been kombucha-less for the last week. :)
This morning, when I got it down from brewing I still didn’t see any new SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast). But after some research, I realized that we actually DO have a new one—I thought it was just part of the old one! We also have another one, that just started forming this week! It should be ready in another week, then we’ll have 12 litres/week, and they ought to keep forming… :) After a while, we’ll have enough that one batch/day will be done, so we’ll have enough kombucha for everyone. :)
Baby loves his kombucha. :)
The big jar on the right held the last starter, while the two jars to the left (the big ones) were both almost full when we started—what’s left is for the rest of this week. ;) The jar down at the bottom of the picture (the smallest one) has the two SCOBY (and new one!) and the starter kombucha.
Oh yum, yum, yum…
that stuff is good I need to know how to make it
ReplyDeleteIt is REALLY simple--just ask Lennie for a starter, and she'll tell you how to make it. :)
ReplyDeleteI have heard of it before... Is it sweet?
ReplyDeleteNo, not really sweet. It has it's own distinct flavour, and I hear that it's something you either love or you hate. Most of my uncles and aunts hate it, but a few like it. :) I don't know how you'd explain it...next time you come for a visit, I'll give you a taste so you can decide for yourself what it's like. :)
