The Cat of Bubastes {Preview to What I'm Reading}

Hello, dear friends! Lately, I've been reading a REALLY interesting book by G. A. Henty entitled, "The Cat of Bubastes" (read/download here). Here's a sneak peek--I'll be back in 1-3 weeks with the entire book review! (yes, I know. I'm horribly, terribly mean.)
--------------------------------------------------
Chapter 1:
In this chapter, the main character, Amuba, is the son of the Rebu king. They are preparing for a battle; his mother is afraid that they will not win this time. They are going out to fight the dreaded Egyptians. They head out to the fight. The Egyptians begin arriving. The plane seems to get smaller and smaller as more…and more…and more Egyptians pour in. The next morning, the fight begins. The Egyptians are fast, strong, and undefeated so far. They also have a great deal of skill and experience backing them. Will they win? Or will the Rebus win?

The Egyptians make a “road” across the swamp. They come over in droves. The Rebus cannot fight them back. More and more soldiers die. The Egyptians press on, pushing the Rebus back, back, back. The Egyptian bowmen are strong…and courageous. The last scene is the King. He was hit in the eye by an Egyptian arrow. He died instantly, slumping down in his chariot. The Rebu warriors are without a leader.

Chapter 2:
Jethro, Amuba's bodyguard takes Amuba to safety—to the city. They prepare the city for war, men and women working side by side. Gathering in all the food from the fields. Gathering stones to drop them on the Egyptians. They have only an hour. The Egyptians will be coming soon.

And then they come. Pouring over the plains, like an unquenchable flood. The last scene is the Rebus, wondering what they will do next. They have put stakes in the seemingly invincible walls, and built themselves a strong shelter from the boiling oil and heavy stones. What will the Egyptians come up with next?

. . . More later!
