Study of "Sheep" and "Shepherd" in Psalms

This week, I'm studying all the Psalms that have the word "sheep" or "shepherd" in them. I'll be doing 2-3 Psalms per day. It looks like it'll be interesting!

Psalm 8--what this passage means to me (or, in my own words):

God's amazing universe!

God's Name is great--and mighty. He has put His glory in the heavens for us to see and enjoy. He has made even babies able to praise Him, thus defeating His enemies (who hate praise). When we see the massive heavens, so huge that we can't uncover all the glory and majesty therein, we wonder how He could possibly notice us. He's made us to have dominion over all animals--sheep, ox, ass, everything--and all plants. Oh, God, how great is Your name!

Psalm 23--what this passage means to me (or, in my own words):

"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters." (Psalm 23:2)

God, You are our shepherd, and we are Your sheep. You feed us, protect us, and give us all we ask. When life is done, You guide us safely home, and we'll live with You forever.

Sheep with their shepherd are content, but without
their shepherd they are lost. WE NEED GOD!

Psalm 44--what this passage means to me (or, in my own words):

We have heard, oh God, what our fathers have told us about how You have protected us in time past. But God, you have left us! We are like sheep without a shepherd, chased by wolves! God, don't leave us, "Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies' sake." (vs. 26)

After reading Psalm 44, I am even more glad that Jesus is our continual shepherd when we trust and obey Him. Praise the LORD!
