Guest Post—Whose Point of View Should You Write From?

Today, I’m guest posting over at Ravens and Writing Desks! This month, they’re focusing on helpful tips for book building—to help the writers who are doing NaNoWriMo this November. I was very privileged to be a part of their “NaNoPlaMo” (National Novel Planning Month), and I’m excited to share my thoughts with you, as well.

Whose Point of View Should You Write From?

This question could also be reworded—whose point of view should you not write from?

I love writing. I think everyone who reads this blog loves writing, too. And as we’re building our stories—layering the different threads of plot, subplot, characters, and setting like cheese and lettuce on a sandwich, we inevitably come across the question. Which point of view would be the most exciting? Which would add the most depth to the story? Today, I want to share with you the two main questions I ask myself when choosing who should have the microphone in my story.

          Who changes the most internally?
By now, you probably have a fairly good idea (or else you don’t!) of who your characters are. You know who the good guy is, and who the villain is. Hopefully, you even know what the good guy does that sets him apart as the “good guy”, and what the villain does to earn that title.

read the rest here! :)

I really enjoyed doing NaNoWriMo last year, and although I won’t be doing it this year due to other projects I’m hoping I can next year. How about you—have you ever heard of NaNoWriMo before? If you have, do you ever think you’d participate?

Until next time
Esther
