Flower and Bible Study Thoughts

I decided to give myself a little challenge this week: Take a picture each day of something, and share it on this blog. I’m trying to go with the theme “beauty”, but seeing as there aren’t many flowers blooming right now I think I’ll have to get creative.

This is currently blooming outside my house—isn’t it beautiful!

I was reading in Genesis 38 – 40 this morning, and had an interesting time comparing Judah’s response to Tamar and Joseph’s response to Potiphar’s wife. Judah and Joseph were both raised by the same man, and both had the chance to learn all they needed to learn about God from him.

Yet when faced with temptation, Judah accepted and Joseph refused. Judah had nothing to lose by refusing, but Joseph had a job—possibly even his life!—to lose by refusing. Also, Joseph said “how can I do this and sin against God?”—not even counting in how he’d be sinning against Potiphar, Potiphar’s wife, or his own conscience! Obviously, he loved and wanted to serve God with everything.

Yesterday at church Dad was sharing about the new year, and mentioned how the new year is like a field of fresh snow. We all have to walk in it, but we must choose how we will step—and every step will show. Joseph, obviously, chose to walk with pure steps, even though the cost was high.

In closing, here’s a beautiful verse from Proverbs that could easily apply to Joseph’s story.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” — Proverbs 30:5

Where have you been reading in the Word lately?

-Esther

  1. Lovely post. I was at a Bible conference in Kaiapoi a few weeks ago and we were taught on Joseph's life, which included Genesis 38, the story of Judah and Tamar. It's a really interesting one to study. :)
By the way, you're 'About' page is slightly out of date! You have no sisters?! ;)

    1. Woops! Good point. Seeing as I've hardly blogged in the last year, guess I got behind on that. I just recently updated Learning Resource Directory's, though! But I will try to fix this one, too. It needs attention.
