Saturday Spotlight

Here I am again, still alive on this side of the planet! This July, I’ve been doing Camp NaNoWriMo, which has been absolutely wonderful—and fun! I convinced one of my brothers to do it with me, so we’ve had lots of word wars on the days we were able to write. Thankfully, we’re both just a bit ahead—and hoping to reach the finish line sometime in the next 1 ½ weeks (I sure hope we do…otherwise, we’d both be sunk!).

I know it’s been ages, but I thought I’d do another “Saturday Spotlight” post just for fun. These are mostly things I’ve collected over the last month or two, but hopefully you’ll still find them interesting and inspiring! Most (if not all) come from Facebook originally, so if you’re friends with me you’ve probably already seen most of this. :)

Father’s touching photo request sparks action on Reddit
I found this post very sweet and inspiring. There’s nothing like a father getting a glimpse at the generosity and love of others when dealing with the loss of his little girl.

Introverts
Very interesting perspective on this. And it’s so true.

10 Ways to Love an Introverted Mom
Even though I’m not a Mom, I think she hit the nail on the head. I could see myself in every point. (And I’m very thankful to know the answer to why I’m so quiet and reserved.)

How to Blog if You Don’t Have Time
Michael Hyatt is inspiring. Believe me. I’ve finally subscribed to his posts, and I haven’t regretted it yet. This post was interesting—and short and helpful. Not sure if I’ve put the tips to use yet, but…I’m hoping to improve!

FocusWriter
Not an encouraging blog post, but the best distraction-free writing program out there that I’ve found. It even beats Scrivener as far as the actual writing side of things goes! (By far, it doesn’t beat Scrivener in editing though.) And the two best things about this program? 1) It’s free! 2) You can customize it to your heart’s content and it even has typewriter sounds. Couldn’t get better. :) Check it out!

For 40 Years, This Russian Family Was Cut Off From All Human Contact, Unaware of World War II
An absolutely amazing (and inspiring!) story. One I’ll never forget. It’s a story that could almost be written a hundred ways and still be fresh and inspiring. It’s the kind of story I’d like to write about one day.

53+ Free Image Sources For Your Blog and Social Media Posts
Very helpful. The kind of list you refer back to a lot.

God’s Perfect Creation Included Caffeine
Definitely a highlight of my day. :)

Stars, sand, and God
I admit it—I love reading comics. And when comics mix with God? Even better. This particular comic was awe-inspiring. God is amazing.

Clichés…With a Twist!
I know I use clichés all too often. But this post was very fun to read anyway.

2k to 10k: Writing Faster, Writing Better, and Writing More of What You Love
This is an amazing book for writers. In it are lots of little helpful tips, things that I’ve both already learned (and proven to be true) and things that I hadn’t learned yet. Very well written, and it’s fairly short, too, so you’d get through it quickly. Lots to learn here!

Write a Novel, Ten Minutes at a Time
Very helpful. And so true! Even if you only have ten minutes in a day to write, over time you can get it done!

A U.S. ambassador was just sworn in on a Kindle
This article made me laugh.

Alright. Looks like that would be enough for now. I do have more, but I think I’ll wait and share them later. Hopefully you’ll find something inspiring or helpful here!

P.S. I haven’t forgotten about the pictures from our trip yet! I’m afraid that’s taken a bit of a back burner lately, but I hope to get them posted before too long. No promises, but maybe by the end of the month? We’ll see. There’s been a lot happening in this household the last little while, and I don’t see any of that slowing down for a while yet, but maybe I can take time one day.

  1. That is wonderful you get to do NaNo with your brothers! It is more fun with siblings or really good friends. Were you able to finish early as you had planned?

    1. Not quite as early, but close. And yes--it's definitely a lot more fun with siblings!
