Well, here I am again. A bit later than I had hoped, but that’s okay. I just hope this time I’ll have time to get the post finished! :)
The first place we went to was where they fix up old steam trains. One of the sons of the family we were visiting works there, so he was able to get permission for us to go in the train shed and get a bit of a look around.
The boys enjoyed climbing onto the trains, getting a truly up-close look at the engines and cars!
I never went in any of the cars, but it was neat to look at them from the ground outside.
Baby brother was his usual self. :)
We looked at how the cars coupled together up close—that was pretty neat! You can’t see it here, but there’s a strong hook that holds the two cars together, and a chain as well…I can’t remember exactly how it works anymore, but it was fascinating to study and figure out.
After a while, we women decided to look at something else besides trains, so we headed across the street to look at some of the other older buildings.
Just after leaving the trains, I saw this across the street. For some reason, this appealed to the humorous side of me!
This is a penny-farthing. I’d hate to try to ride something like this on the flat—but up a hill? Impossible!
Beautiful old-ish sign!
“Butcher Game Dealer”? Sounds a bit…dangerous. I don’t think I’ll be going in.
On the way back, I got some pictures of the inscriptions on the church we passed coming down.
Things like this I call “inspiration”. I find it fascinating! I’m not ashamed that I’m always looking for writing ideas.
A view from one way…can’t remember exactly where. I love the columns of the building, anyway!
The only good picture of the Buick that I got.
…and that’s the end of the pictures from Omaru! Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday were taken up with the conference, which was really, really good. Then Sunday evening we had a big get-together at the house where we were staying, and we sang songs.
We ended up singing for around 1½ hours, and by the end I was starting to get just a bit hoarse. :) But it was really, really good.
So many dear people…people we’d never met before, but quickly became friends with!
And then we drove home on Monday.
When we got home, the sun was shining and the puddle out in the paddock had shrunk some!
Overall, it was one blessed weekend. Even though we had so much rain on Thursday, we were still able to go and we all were very blessed to be down in Timaru. Next year, we’d all like to go again. It was good. We made many fun memories down there.
And now I should go and try to sort out a few pictures from the trip we just took to Nelson last weekend! :)

It looks like you had a wonderful trip! The trains are really amazing, though I do have a special fondness for anything steam powered.
