The Shortcut

About a month and a half before we moved, Joe (my second-youngest brother) and I decided to walk back to our old place instead of waiting for Dad to take us home.

We had James show us the way across the shortcut since it was my first time.

Instead of taking the road the whole way home, we can cut across several paddocks, climb a hill, and join the road on the other side. It saves just a little time in the walking distance!

Through this fence, and then up the hill to the right. It was a gorgeous day!

Simon had biked around on the road, then decided to climb the hill and meet us at the top.

“I’m going to crash into this thistle!” Joe was in a silly mood as we climbed.

Looking up to the top of the hill…

…and looking back at the unfolding scenery.

After getting over the hill, we joined the road and crossed an old wooden bridge over the train tracks.

The view from this bridge is amazing. Especially when there is a storm coming in from the north!

No storm that day, but it was still really pretty. :)

…and now you’ve seen all (at least, I think all…) of the pictures that I took around our new place before we moved.

P.S. I don’t know if you read Jewels of Jesus or not, but I recently published two posts about the move there. Check them out: Claiming the Promise (part 1) and Past Finding Out (part 2).

    1. Yes, they are beautiful. :) It's late summer, so they aren't as snow-covered as they are in winter (on hot summers they have no snow at all!). I'm hoping that I'll get a good picture showing them come winter.

  2. How long did it take you to walk that shortcut? And your pictures are beautiful. :)

    1. Oh, maybe 5-10 minutes. I don't know. I did stop several times to take pictures, though, so that made a difference! :)
